OSTEOPATHY is primarily involved with disorders of
the neuro-musculo-skeletal (bones, muscles, joints, ligaments and nerves) system of the body. Most patients seeking help from an Osteopath will do so for treatment for neck and back pain,
sciatica, headaches, muscle and joint pain and also the disorders common in babies and children such as colic or reflux.
OSTEOPATHY is a branch of medicine which views the
body as a whole and complete unit with each part having a distinct relationship with each other. This is known as a “holistic” approach where treatment of the patient takes into account the
physical, mental and emotional components of the human body.
The philosophy and principles of Osteopathic treatment are that the body has an inherent capacity to defend and repair itself.
When normal adaptability is disrupted, or when environmental changes overcome the body’s capacity for self maintenance, then problems with the body
TREATMENT therefore, aims at restoring function
within the body so that the natural healing proceses can take place more effectively.
Treatment techniques are varied and include soft tissue work (stretching, massage), mobilisation (rhythmic joint movement), pressure point therapy,
cranial work and manipulation. Treatments are tailored to the individual. The goal is to correct the imbalances in the musculoskeletal system and therefore providing immediate and
long term relief from pain.
